Business proposition
OAB provides a patented solution for water quality and disease management in the aquaculture industry. The patented product offered is the Nitrifying Bioreactor. Nitrifying Bioreactors are self-sustaining systems that removes Ammonia and Nitrites created in Aquaculture tanks and helps maintain reef quality conditions in aquaculture tanks leading to the production of higher numbers of higher quality, larger and organic seeds & fish. Nitrifying Bioreactors can be used for various aquatic species and for salt-water, fresh-water and brackish water fish species. According to field trials, the mortality rate of these species reduces by 40%.
Social and Environmental Impact
Ammonia is produced in Aquaculture tanks from the organic matter that accumulates in the tank and has to be removed to avoid the death of fish. Currently this removal is done by continually pumping fresh water into the tank. This approach causes problems such as stress on the marine animals due to constantly changing conditions, removal of vital nutrients and gradual deterioration of the environment because old water is dumped back in the water bodies. This also means that water released back to fresh water bodies such as lakes cause pollution and is likely to spread disease.
Re-circulating aquaculture systems developed using Oriental Aquamarine's bioreactors provide a safe & natural way to remove Ammonia and Nitrites from Aquaculture tanks, leading to better quality of products with positive impact on the environment.
Current status and Expansion Plans
Currently OAB offers two capacity ranges of re-circulating reactors to marine hatcheries suitable for hatching all varieties of marine animals
OAB is currently developing a higher capacity bioreactor for aquaculture farms and for industries such as meat packing and effluent removal.
OAB has completed extensive field trials of its technology. OAB is likely to end this financial year with revenues of Rs. 50 Lakhs
Funding Requirements
OAB has been given government grants of around 60 Lakhs for R&D and design of the products. OAB plans to raise a further amount of 5 Crores to finance expansion into various parts of the country, further R&D, and also for entering markets abroad.
